« Back to Glossary Index

Glycogenesis is the process of converting glucose into glycogen. When blood glucose levels are high, it causes extra glucose to be retained in the liver and muscle cells.

The main aim of glycogenesis is to prevent the body from running out of glucose. Glucose is important since it is the body’s primary energy source. Vital organs can fail if there isn’t enough glucose in the body.
